Updating Questions (version)

Modified on Mon, Oct 23, 2023 at 12:32 PM

You've found yourself in need of updating one of your questions.   Perhaps you found a typo, or would like to change the response options that are available.   First, identify the (locked) state of your question.   Locked questions are those that have been answered by a student.   Locked questions are kept permanently in the database allowing the system to always reproduce the exact assessment as the student saw it.

To identify whether your question is locked or unlocked, locate your Question ID (this will be the letter "Q" followed by 4+ numbers).   If your question has been locked, you will see a red (locked) text near your question ID.    Once identified, follow the appropriate steps below to update your question.

Updating unlocked questions:

  1. Select your question from the main question list to view it's details
  2. Select edit on the section you wish to update
  3. Make any changes you would like to make.

Updating locked questions:

  1.  Locate your question from the main question list
  2. Select create new version from the options menu (If your question is already opened, the options menu will be located inside the general information section).
  3. Read and confirm the popup confirmation box
  4. Note that you have now created a new version of your question (the display ID will now have a new version number appended to it)
  5. Select edit on the section you wish to update
  6. Make any changes you would like to make
  7. When you're ready to publish your new question, change the state from Draft to Approved.

NOTE:  Once your new question is set to approved, it will automatically update any assessments/courses using this question to your new version.   Any student that launched those assessments from that point on will see the updated question.
