Excavators are the companies or individuals who call in dig requests to one call centers.
In UtiliSphere an excavator is often added to the system when a company needs to:
- Note that the excavator is non-compliant
- Override the positive response to the excavator contact information from the ticket by allowing you to specify the recipient at the excavator and the method of contacting them (phone, email, fax, SMS text message)
- Add special notes that appear on the Ticket Summary page for the excavator
Processing Order
When a one call center sends a ticket, the system takes the excavator name and contact or caller information and attempts to match them to an excavator and excavator contact in the system. If a match is found, this processing order is used to determine the contact information:
Processing Order | Source of Contact Information | Description |
1 | Excavator Contact | If the excavator and contact information from the ticket match an excavator and one of its contacts in the system, then the contact's information from the system is used to send the response according to the Rules for Sending Positive Response to this Contact |
2 | Excavator | If the excavator from the ticket matches an excavator in the system, then the system sends the response according to the Rules for Sending Positive Response to this Excavator (below). |
3 | Excavator contact information from ticket | If there is no excavator in the system to match the excavator on the ticket, the system uses excavator contact information (phone, email, fax) on the ticket and applies the system rules (processing order):

Columns
Create Excavator
- On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > Ticket Management > Excavators
- On the Excavator Summary page, click Add an Excavator
- On the Add a Excavator page, fill in the fields. See Excavator Details > Modify Excavator, step 2
Use Merge Excavator to add (merge) multiple excavators as aliases to a single excavator. The system processes merged excavators (aliases) the same way it processes the excavator to which they were merged.
An alias is an alternate name for an excavator. Use aliases to group excavators by a single excavator name (also called normalizing excavator names).
- Excavators must share a one call center in order to be merged
- If the excavators used as aliases have zip codes, the system will not match them to the excavator you merged them with unless the zip code on the ticket matches the zip code of the excavator
- On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > Ticket Management > Excavators
- On the Excavator Summary page, in the left column, click Merge Excavators
- On the Merge Excavators page, in the Merge to Excavator dropdown list, choose the excavator to merge or add the other excavators to. Result: The list of excavators appears
- From the list of excavators, search (top left of list) or use the page navigation (bottom right corner of list) to find the excavators to merge. Click excavators to choose them. Result: In the bottom left corner of the list, the Selected field shows the number of excavators you have chosen
- Click Save. Result: The Excavator Summary page appears. The excavators you chose are now listed on the Excavator Details page of the excavator you merged them with under Excavator Aliases.
Configure Screen to Display Non-Compliant Excavator
