Facility Locations:

A facility location is the underground assets you are trying to protect. When importing the facility location into UtiliSphere, it can be used as a visual reference or for auto-closing a ticket.

Responsibility Areas:

A responsibility area is defined for a person, group of people or an office. When a ticket is received from the One Call Center it looks at what area of responsibility the dig site falls into and then places it into the folder for person or group of people to locate.

Importing Facility or Responsibility areas

1. Select Map Definitions from the Administration menu.

2. Choose Go to Responsibility Area Summary.

3. Select Add a Responsibility Area

4. Enter a name and description for the Responsibility Area. Place a check in the box beside Active on Import if the file you are importing should be used as soon as it has finished processing. Select Add.

5. The Responsibility Area Detail will now show version 0. Click on the hyperlink for version zero to import your GIS file.

6. Select Import from shape file from the list of available tasks.

Drawing Tools:

If you do not have a GIS department or a way to create shape files, the system has drawing tools that will assist you in creating the facility and areas of responsibility.
