Map Layers

To import a custom map layer to use with tickets, follow these steps.

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the left column, click Add a Map Layer
3. On the Add a Map Layer page, fill in the fields. See Modify Map Layer, step 4, below

To edit a custom map layer to use with tickets, follow these steps.

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the Name column, click the map layer (or sort by column heading) 
3. On the Map Layer Details page, click Modify this Map Layer

4. On the Modify Map Layer page, fill in the fields:

                                                                       
   Custom Fields  

   The type of map layer determines the fields you see. Not all fields are available in all map layers. 

                                                                               

   The values in these fields usually depend on how your company handles geographic information. If you have questions, ask your system administrator.

                                                                                                         

   Field	Description
   Authentication Token	The authentication token is a parameter in the endpoint URL that allows you access to the map layer from ESRI or WMS
   Available on Mobile Devices	The map layer can be downloaded to your mobile device and used offline when your device is not connected to the internet
   CRS	The Coordinate Reference System (CRS) is the map projection used to display map data. Example: EPSG3395
   Endpoint	The URL of the map layer from ESRI or WMS. HTTPS is recommended. Using HTTP will require additional browser configuration on each computer to function properly
   Format	If the map layer is an image (BMP, GIF, JPG, PNG, etc.), indicate the image format by typing  the file extension
   Hidden	Hidden map layers do not appear on maps, but are used by auto processing rules
   Is Base Layer	A base layer is the bottom map layer. Only one base is visible at a time. All other map layers are above the base layer                                                                                              Base layers appear together at the top of the list of map layers in the Layer Picker (  )                                                                                              You can make the transparency of base layers adjustable from maps (see Enable Map Layer Transparency)
   Layer Name	The name of the layer
   Layer Names	WMS layers can be made of layers that are configured on your map server. Layer names appear as names or numbers separated by commas
   Maximum / Minimum Zoom Level	The zoom level determines the size of the area and amount of detail when viewing the map. The max and min zoom levels define the range between which you can zoom. Maximum zoom level: The lower the number, the more you have zoomed out (the larger the area the map shows and the less detail shown). The maximum is "0," (zoomed out all the way out) which reveals the entire planet Minimum zoom level: The higher the number, the more you have zoomed in (the more smaller the area the map shows and the more detail shown). For many companies, the minimum zoom level is "19," which is usually an individual street address. The "19" zoom level may be defined differently at your company.  For more information, ask your system administrator Entering "3" zooms in to the North American continent                                                                                              Example: If you set the maximum zoom level to "3" and the minimum zoom level to 19, then the North American continent is the farthest out you can zoom out and a street address is the closest you can zoom in.                                                                                              The system accepts any value as long as the maximum is above the minimum. For more information, ask your system administrator.
   Opacity	A decimal number between 0 and 1 that determines how visible the map layer is. Example: .50 means the map layer is 50% visible
   Position	The value that determines the position and order of map layers.  For more information, ask your system administrator.                                                                                              ESRI Dynamic defaults to "front"
   Request Feature Info	Some WMS endpoints allow information to be included from WMS layers. Use this feature to pull in such information. Not all WMS layers support this feature
   Server Version	The version of the WMS server

   Item Map Layers

   Item map layers are created on the Form Settings > Options tab.

                                                                                     

   Field	Description
   Color Type	Item Map Layer: Single Color is the default Ticket Default Layer: Choose color type: Due date Single color Ticket type
   Description	The description of the layer
   Pin Color	The color of the pin.   Click in the colored box  to set the color. Result: The color window appears In the color window, click in the right column to pick the color, then click in the larger part of the window to define the color more precisely
   Name	The name of the pin

                                                                               

    

5. Click Add or Save 

Choose which registration codes can use which map layers.

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the left column, click Configure Map Layer Availability
3. On the Configure Map Layer page:
   1. Registration Code: In Registration Code dropdown, choose the registration code
   2. Map Layer: Choose one, all, or some map layers 
4. Click Save

Use this feature to make it possible to adjust the transparency of the base layer on the map on the Ticket Details page (that have maps). The base layer is the bottom-most layer that sits below the any other map layers. Transparency is set as a percentage: 

• The base layer set at 100% transparent  is totally visible 
• The base layer set at 0% transparent is totally invisible

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the left column, click Enable Map Layer Transparency
3. On the Map Layer Transparency page, click Enable

Choose colors for facility, responsibility, and parcel map layers.

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the left column, click Edit Map Colors
3. On the Edit Map Colors page, click in the colored boxes  to set the color. Result: The color window appears
4. In the color window, click in the right column to pick the color, then click in the larger part of the window to define the color more precisely
5. Click Save

The map is interactive:

• Use your mouse to click, pan, and scroll to zoom within the map

1. On the top menu bar, click System Management ( ) > Administration > General > Map Layers
2. On the Map Layer Overview page, in the left column, click View Map Annotations

   In the upper-left corner of the map,  the map tools are in a vertical toolbar:

                                                                                         

   Map Tool	Description
   Map Layer Information (  )	For information about a specific point: Click Information (  ) Click on a point on the map Layer Information and General Information display on separate tabs, if available for that point. General Information includes: Facility locations and responsibility areas Parcel information (depending on availability)
   Measure Distances ( )	Click Ruler (  ) Click on two points on the map to get the distance                                                                                              To turn off, click Ruler (  ) again
   Zoom In/Zoom Out (+ - )	Click Zoom In (+) and Zoom Out (-) to increase or decrease the details shown on the map
   Zoom to a Specific Area ( )	Click Zoom ( ) to a Specific Area icon Click the map and drag to draw the zoom area The map zooms to the area you drew                                                                                               To turn off, click Zoom ( ) again
   Dialog ( )	For information about a specific point: Click Dialog (  ) Put the cursor on a point on the map  General Information displays in a popup window, if available for that point. General Information includes facility locations and responsibility areas (This is the same General Information that appears in the Map Layer Information feature, above). If map definition linked to a ticket, additional layer information may be available.

                                                                               

    

                                                                       
   Layers (  )   

   In the upper-right corner of the map, put the mouse pointer on the Layer Picker ( ) to see the map layers (Street, Satellite, Hybrid, irth GIS) you can display on the map. If your company uses custom Map Layers, these are also in the Layer Picker (see Map Layers under Administration)

                                                                                                           

   Layer Information	Description
   Activities	A layer that shows worker activity that has location information: Item (Start/End work, Add photo) Ticket (Start/End work, Add photo, Add response)
   Dig Site	Area on the map based on geocoded address with buffer applied from ticket. Dig sites can be based on To/From street address, for example, 15 Main St to 63 Main St
   Dig Site Bounding Box	Box on map drawn by user to indicate the four corners of the dig site. Dig site bounding boxes can contain multiple OCC dig areas
   Dig Site Point	The pin marking the dig site (when map is zoomed out)
   Facility Location	A facility location is the geographical location of the asset or facility you are trying to protect. Facility locations are defined when you add map definitions. If you indicate that facilities are not in use, they appear differently on the map. Facility locations can be processed by auto processing rules (Auto Response)
   ESRI Hybrid	A base layer that shows streets, photographic landscape, and political borders (state, province, nation)
   ESRI (Sat)	A base layer that shows photographic landscape
   ESRI  (Street)	A base layer that shows only roads, streets, highways
   irth GIS	A base layer that shows streets and political borders (state, province, nation)
   Near Street	The nearest intersecting street. Not part of dig site (from ticket)
   OCC Dig Area	The One Call Center (OCC) dig area contains the latitude and longitude coordinates from the One Call Center ticket   (can also contain grid data). This dig area is a shaded box
   OCC Dig Area Outline	The OCC Dig Area Outline shows the OCC Dig Area by showing its borders (only the edges are visible) and not shading the dig area
   Parcels	Shows all parcel boundaries on the three most detailed (zoomed-in ( + )) map views
   Responsibility Areas	A responsibility area is the area in which a person,  group of people, or an office is responsible for the work to be done in it. Responsibility areas are defined when you add map definitions (If you indicate that responsibility areas are not in use, they appear differently on the map). Responsibility areas can be processed by auto processing rules (Auto Assignment or Auto Folder Placement). If auto processing rules are used, you can also use ticket notifications (Ticket Assigned Notifications or Ticket Put in Folder Notifications)
   Users	A layer that shows the GPS location of the most recent Start/End action and the worker who performed it

                                                                               

    

                                                                       
   Search (  ) 

   1. Click Search (   )
   2. In the search box, type an address (the search is formatted as street, city, state) or latitude/longitude coordinates (type latitude, a space, then longitude)
   3. Press Enter or click a suggested result to go to it on the map
